20 QUESTIONS

  1. What’s your role at Lutheran North?

    Math Teacher

  2. Where are you from?

    Fraser, Michigan

  3. When did you know that you wanted to be in the Lutheran high school environment and what led you to pursue that path?

In my first few years of college, I worked the after school care program at St. John Fraser. This experience made me believe the Lord was calling me to teach. My experiences as a student at Lutheran North were incredible and a lot of that had to do with the amazing teachers on staff that put Christ first. My experiences with them made it clear that I wanted to have the same impact in a Lutheran high school for other students. It is an added bonus that the opportunity happens to be back at LHN.

  4. What’s your favorite Bible verse?

    Jeremiah 29:11

  5. What are three words to best describe you?

Kind, Helpful, and Energetic (so long as I have had my morning cups of coffee)

  6. What was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

I was a summer camp counselor at Trinity, Clinton Township for a few years. I worked with many different age groups and I have to say, I learned pretty quickly I was not cut out to teach preschool. However, it was an awesome opportunity and helped solidify my desire to become a teacher.

  7. Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?

Definitely singing. I have been a part of a couple of choirs and have sung solos in church.

  8. If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?

I would choose teleportation. There are so many places around the world I would love to visit. Teleportation would give me the opportunity to see all of those places and travel home on the same day.

  9. What’s your favorite food?

    Detroit-style deep dish pizza.

  10. What’s your least favorite food?

Durian fruit. If you don't know what it is or have never had it, consider yourself lucky.

  11. What’s your favorite place that you’ve traveled and why?

My favorite place that I've traveled is Niagra Falls. Pictures do not do it justice. It is incredible.

  12. Where would you like to travel next and why?

I have never been to the western part of the United States. I would love to travel to places like the Grand Canyon and other landmarks that are out west.

  13. What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?

I am part of a weekly podcast with a couple of friends from college where we talk about college football and basketball. We have been podcasting for a couple of years and it is a lot of fun!

  14. What’s one hobby you’d like to get into?

    Golf.

  15. What’s your favorite sport to watch and which team do you root for?

My favorite sport to watch is football. My favorite team to root for is the Michigan Wolverines. Go Blue!

  16. Are you an early bird or a night owl?

It depends the time of year. During the school year, I am an early bird. I love to wake up early, have my breakfast and relax before I head to school. During the summer, I am definitely a night owl.

  17. Are you a dog person or a cat person (neither or both)?

    Both.

  18. What’s one of your favorite memories from the past year?

One of my favorite memories from the past year was my trip to Tulsa, Oklahoma this past summer. I have cousins who live there, and my family has wanted to visit them in Tulsa for years. We finally made the trip down for five days in July. While it was really hot and at times uncomfortable (it over 100 degrees every day), the trip was worth it. I am hopeful our family can go again soon.

  19. What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?

"Do your best and let God do the rest." My Spanish 1 teacher at LHN, Senora Phelps, would say this before we took every Spanish test. It is a phrase that I have carried with me into every aspect of life. It reminds me to give my best effort on the things in life I can control and trust God with the things I have no control over.

  20. Is there any advice you’d offer to current and future Lutheran North students?

Be active and engaged in the LHN community! Join after school clubs. Play a sport. Go to the school dances. Have a role in the school musical. You are only in high school for four years and the time goes by quickly. Make the most of the opportunity and meet new people. You may end up with unexpected lifelong friendships just by engaging in something happening here at North.

WELCOME TO LUTHERAN NORTH, michael!
