We are so excited to welcome Mrs. Shaleen Wilkins to our ministry team. After a decade as an SAP analyst in the automotive industry Shaleen began her journey in Education. She taught English as a second language for two years before spending two years in middle and high school. She and her husband celebrated ten years of marriage this year. They love to camp and hike with their two daughters, Greta seven and Lucy five. Shaleen earned her bachelors degree from Oakland University in journalism and her Masters degree from Concordia University Ann Arbor in Curriculum and Instruction with secondary certification.

  1. What’s your role at Lutheran North?

    English Teacher

  2. Where are you from?

    Ortonville, Michigan

  3. When did you know that you wanted to be in the Lutheran high school environment and what led you to pursue that path?

    Attending Concordia University opened my eyes to teaching at a parochial school. My wonderful professor and advisor and mentor Dr. CvH from Concordia lead me this was after spending time with me in a public school classroom. I owe her so much praise for being so incredibly encouraging and knowledgeable.

  4. What’s your favorite Bible verse?

    John 18:36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world,” because it reminds me that the right choice isn't usually the easy choice. 

  5. What are three words to best describe you?

    Hard-working, determined, loyal

  6. What was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

    Children’s group grief counseling for Henry Ford Hospice.

  7. Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?

    I can make balloon animals!

  8. If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?

    Time travel.

  9. What’s your favorite food?

    Fresh stone fired pizza!

  10. What’s your least favorite food?

    Liver and onions- eeeewwww!

  11. What’s your favorite place that you’ve traveled and why?

    I loved visiting Greece. The islands are some of the most beautiful places I have ever seen, and Athens is a physical representation of history!

  12. Where would you like to travel next and why?

    I would love to travel to France and have an excuse to dust of my speaking skills.

  13. What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?

    I love knitting, and I have summited 3 mountains.

  14. What’s one hobby you’d like to get into?

    Flower pressing! I love making crafts with pressed flowers.

  15. What’s your favorite sport to watch and which team do you root for?

    Baseball and hockey are my favorites. I always root for the Red Wings!

  16. Are you an early bird or a night owl?

    I’m an early bird! I can barely keep my eyes open after 9:30.

  17. Are you a dog person or a cat person (neither or both)?

    I love dogs.

  18. What’s one of your favorite memories from the past year?

    Traveling with my daughters this summer was a true joy. I love the simplicity of camping, hiking and beach combing with them.

  19. What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?

    The advice I was given wasn’t said aloud to me. It was modeled. The commitment I saw my grandparents and parents, tirelessly, make to their faith and family has been a great example for me. Also, my husband reminding me that God doesn’t choose perfect people when I don’t feel like I am enough.

  20. Is there any advice you’d offer to current and future Lutheran North students?

    Stay engaged in everything you do. Every moment of your life is important and an opportunity.
