Welcome, Josh Dutt

Josh Dutt

Lutheran North

English Teacher

We are so excited to welcome Mr. Josh Dutt to our ministry team.  Please take a moment to learn a little more about Mr. Dutti and his journey to becoming part of our ministry team here at Lutheran North.

My name is Josh Dutt, and I join the Lutheran High North faculty on a journey that has changed course later in life than most. I was born in Petoskey Michigan, and have lived on the west side of the state, as well as in Texas, but would consider Macomb my home. I entered education just two years ago after spending 15+ years in the financial field working in banking and mortgages. I could not be happier to have changed course. I graduated from Michigan State University in 2008, and earned my masters in English Education in 2023. I married my wonderful wife, Shianne, in 2014 and we have 3 fantastic children: Tyson, 16, a junior at Dakota High School, Abigail, 8, and Carter, 7 in 3rd and 2nd grade respectively. In my free time I coach football at Dakota, and spend my hours dedicated to my children's activities. I am looking forward to contributing to LHN any way I can and integrating into the school community!

Please warmly welcome Josh as a Mustang and get to know him through our Staff Spotlight 20 Questions below!!

  3. When did you know that you wanted to be in the Lutheran high school environment and what led you to pursue that path?

I realized I wanted to be in the Lutheran high school environment when I saw how faith and learning could be integrated in a meaningful way. As an English teacher, I value discussions about character, morality, and purpose, and I knew that a Lutheran school would allow me to guide students academically while also helping them grow spiritually.

  5. What are three words to best describe you?

    Witty, Sarcastic, Loyal

During college in the summer, I worked for a bounce house company delivering and setting up parties.

Barcelona, Spain. La Sagrada Familia was amazing, and I got to see my favorite soccer team FC Barcelona play a home game. Messi scored a free kick while I was there recording!

  12. Where would you like to travel next and why?

I'd like to bring my kids to the cities my wife and I visited on our honeymoon: Paris, Rome, and Barcelona. I'd also love to explore England and Northern Italy.

  16. Are you an early bird or a night owl?

Definitely a night owl, though I don't mind getting up early when needed.

  17. Are you a dog person or a cat person (neither or both)?

At this point, given my dog's propensity for peeing in the house despite being taken out whenever he wants, I would side with neither.

  18. What’s one of your favorite memories from the past year?

Watching my son play in his first varsity football game a couple of weeks ago against Brother Rice.

  19. What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?

Don't sweat the small stuff, I don't remember who told me.

  20. Is there any advice you’d offer to current and future Lutheran North students?

As you go through life, do not compare yourself to others, but rather compare yourself to past versions of yourself and appreciate the growth you have experienced and the hard work that it has taken to get to the point you are at. Life is not a constant climb, it is about ups and downs and weathering whatever comes your way.
