Joshua Macri has won plenty of races or finished in the top 10 at several invitationals during his high school cross country career.

He added another victory to his belt Saturday at Stony Creek Metropark.

Macri, a senior and three-time state qualifier, finished the 3.1-mile course in 16:19.18 – which was some 15 seconds off his meet record he established last year with a time of 16:04.40.

Macri helped the Mustangs finish sixth in a loaded team standings which featured several schools that reached the various state meets last season.

Livonia Churchill won the team title with 45 points, followed by Troy Athens (75), Oxford (119), Marysville (122), Clarkston (219) and Lutheran North (232).

Warren Michigan Athletic Club for Homeschoolers (MACH) finished seventh (242), Sterling Heights Stevenson was 10th (314), New Haven 13th (356), St. Clair Shores Lakeview 16th (449), Chesterfield Austin Catholic 18th (473), St. Clair Shores Lake Shore 20th (533), Warren Mott 22nd (571) and Roseville 23rd (627).

Several schools just outside of Macomb County also competed, with Almont (12th, 338), Madison Heights Lamphere (14th, 381), Imlay City (19th, 478) and Algonac (24th, 701).

Troy Athens’ Colin Blachford was second (16:22.19), only three seconds behind Macri as the two battled it out on the scenic course. Churchill’s Troy Verhelle was third (16:34.13) and teammate Tyler Bjorklund was fourth (16:39.03).

Lutheran North had a second top-10 finisher, as Elliot Alef crossed fifth overall (16:51.24).

Stevenson’s Jaron Osanaiye finished 14th (17:35.95), Austin Catholic’s Gavin Bowers 17th (17:39.37), Warren MACH’s Garrett Potts 25th (17:58.10) and New Haven’s Doug Grishkevich 29th (18:06.85) to round out Macomb County runners inside the top 30.

Marysville’s Brendan Koza was 15th (17:37.64), Lamphere’s Ryland Giannini was 21st (17:49.85) and Marysville’s Weston Rutallie 26th (17:58.19) to further represent the Macomb Area Conference in the top 30.

In the girls cross country meet, Lutheran North’s Chloe Boright matched Macri, as she broke the plain in 19:44.40. Teammate Samantha Whitlam was second in 19:48.73, as the Mustangs took the top two slots and had five finishers inside the top 16 to help the squad walk away with the team title.

Lutheran North collected just 33 points, easily outdistancing runner-up Clarkston which scored 86 points. Livonia Churchill (103), Sterling Heights Stevenson (!30), Marysville (149), Ubly (201), Oxford (202), Warren Mott (228), Troy Athens (231) and Birmingham Groves (238) rounded out the top 10 in the team standings.

Warren MACH (12th, 305), Warren Cousino (16th, 455) and St. Clair Shores Lakeview (17th, 483) rounded out the county schools. Just outside of the county, Marine City placed 13th (350) and Port Huron was 18th (507), as both are Macomb Area Conference members.

Lutheran North’s winning group also included Lucy Gump (10th, 21:13.63), Ariana Macri (15th, 21:45.29) and Evelyn Buckley (16th, 21:47.42).

Austin Catholic’s Cassidy Bowers finished third (20:07.15) to give Macomb County the top three finishers, while Churchill’s Maddie Vargo (20:08.96) and Sandusky’s Sage Palmer (20:23.66) wrapped up the top five.

New Haven’s Emma Reimer was seventh (21:01.56), Stevenson’s Elizabeth Mann eighth (21:08.52), Warren Mott’s Angela Franco (18th, 21:50.98), Stevenson’s Madison Mann (24th, 22:21.19), Mott’s Eva Stuckey (25th, 22:21.89), MACH’s Juliana Nicodemi (26th, 22:24.11) and Stevenson’s Macy Grembos (27th, 22:26.34) also finished in the top 30 group.

Elsewhere in the MAC and Blue Water Area Conference, Marysville’s Abby Dietzel (13th, 21:28.08), Algonac’s Kadence Ager (14th, 21:42.42), Almont’s Taylor Stanczak (19th, 21:57.60) and Lamphere’s Hannah Haines (28th, 22:28.58) also placed in the top 30.
