We are so excited to welcome Mr. Jacob Roggow to the Lutheran North faculty as our new choir teacher! Please join us in giving him a warm Mustang welcome as he begins this exciting journey with our school community!

My name is Jacob Roggow! I am so blessed to have the opportunity this year to teach choir at Lutheran High North. I've lived in the area for about a year helping with church music at Trinity Lutheran in Utica MI. I would say I'm originally from Bethalto, IL - my parents were in church work though so we lived several places growing up for various calls in their ministry. I grew up playing piano, and played soccer through my freshman year in college. By my sophomore year in College at Concordia Nebraska I knew God was leading me to study music education in church music and see how I can serve others through that! My first position out of college was leading church music at Zion Lutheran church in Fort Myers FL. When the position came up at Trinity Lutheran in Utica MI, it was a good opportunity to be closer to some family - my brother and his wife and two daughters live in Rochester and attend St. John Lutheran in Rochester. It is great to be in a community that has lots of Lutheran connections!

What’s your role at Lutheran North?

Where are you from?
Bethalto, Illinois
When did you know that you wanted to be in the Lutheran high school environment and what led you to pursue that path?
I've been in church work (music) for 6 years, teaching adult choirs and preschool music! (Never been a part of teaching k-8 music - yet!) When the opportunity came up last year to teach high school choir, I knew it would be a good experience to teach and especially to get to share my faith in the Lutheran school setting!
What’s your favorite Bible verse?
Proverbs 3:5-6
What are three words to best describe you?
Encouraging, light-hearted, and motivated!
What was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
One summer in college I detasseled corn in Nebraska
Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?
No hidden talents I can think of - but one thing I'm rather proud of, is recently I got adidas pipe organ shoes!
If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?
Teleportation
What’s your favorite food?
Olive oil
What’s your least favorite food?
Olives
What’s your favorite place that you’ve traveled and why?
Dubai - it's Ritzy!!
Where would you like to travel next and why?
Europe - to explore different Pipe Organs!
What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?
I was not in choir until college! but now I love it and want to share the positive experience it can be with others.
What’s one hobby you’d like to get into?
I grew up skiing till about 8th grade - I'd like to get back into it!
What’s your favorite sport to watch and which team do you root for?
College Football - Nebraska Cornhuskers - GO BIG RED!

What’s one of your favorite memories from the past year?
I went to Seward NE for the 4th of July - the 250th! It's where I went to college and the town is known for being "4th of July city" - it's always fun to see people and catch up for a good time!
What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
"Now you guys are young, but when you get older, life gets stranger than fiction" - Stranger at Runza fast food place. I have no idea why he told us that, but it seems to be true!
Is there any advice you’d offer to current and future Lutheran North students?
If you had good friends in grade school that don't go with you to Lutheran North in high school - keep in touch with them if you can! My best friends now are still from friendships I made in grade school! It's possible even if you go to different schools, and those close friendships are so valuable and are people to lean on through life's unique twists and turns!
