Be Rotten to the Core: Our Theatre Department Rocks "The Descendants"

A high school production of The Descendants brings a fresh burst of energy to the stage, blending music, humor, and a surprisingly thoughtful message about identity and choice. Set in the kingdom of Auradon, the story follows the teenage children of famous Disney heroes and villains. When Prince Ben, the son of Belle and the Beast, decides to give four kids from the Isle of the Lost—a place where villains have been banished—a chance to live in Auradon, everything begins to change.

The story centers on Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos, the children of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Jafar, and Cruella de Vil. At first, they arrive with a secret mission to steal the Fairy Godmother’s wand and help their villain parents escape. But as they experience friendship, kindness, and acceptance for the first time, they begin to question who they really want to be.

Throughout the play, the characters face peer pressure, self-doubt, and the weight of their family legacies. With upbeat musical numbers and colorful choreography, the production highlights both the fun and the emotional depth of their journey. By the end, the VKs (Villain Kids) must choose between following in their parents’ footsteps or forging their own paths.

This student performance captures the heart of The Descendants: the idea that your past doesn’t define you, and that everyone deserves the chance to change their story. It’s an entertaining and meaningful show that leaves the audience thinking long after the final bow.

We wish to extend a big thank-you to Cheryl Marie Freeman (Unit Production Manager), Rob Ellison (Tech Crew), and Stephanie Graham (Vocal Director). To God Be The Glory!
