Mustang Minute - October 16, 2026
Lutheran North Families,
Although the week was different (A Friday schedule on Monday followed by two half-days), it was successful, nonetheless. Great education took place in the classrooms, and our counseling department, in tandem with our staff, was able to effectively test over 400 students. Even though technology does not always cooperate, our staff and students navigated the difficulties the technology presented, and every student registered was able to take either the PSAT 8/9, PSAT/NMSQT or SAT. Thanks to all who were involved!
We were fortunate to welcome back an alumnus, Pastor Ben Spaulding (class of 2011) of Journey Lutheran Church in Oxford, for chapel on Tuesday. Pastor Ben gave a wonderful message, reminding students that the devil presents himself in many ways and tirelessly works to turn us away from Christ, but to stand firm and remain rooted in Christ. We are so thankful for the message he shared and the work that is being done through our alumni, many of whom have entered the ministry.
Outside of the classroom, our community witnessed our first BWAC title. Our soccer team, who has yet to lose a game this season, tied Imlay City 2-2 Monday night, earning our Lutheran North Mustangs a conference championship. Our soccer program, which has a rich history, will add a 2026 to their conference title banner. Congratulations Mustangs! Our girls golf program, which also has a rich history, will cheer on sophomore Nina Hanley as she competes individually for a state title this weekend. Many of our other athletic programs are gearing up for conference championships and state playoff runs in the coming weeks, so stay tuned! I hope to have more positive reports for you about our Mustang athletics in the weeks to come.
Our HOSA program is primed and ready for their competition in early November. Mrs. Mandziara has our students hard at work. Our theatre program continues to work diligently as they are nearing their productions. It’s exciting to see sets going up and the on-stage performers perfecting their craft! Our Wonderfully Made (Students for Life) group participated in a “life-chain” on Sunday, October 4th, showing their support for life to our surrounding community. It is amazing to watch our students live boldly and adhere to our mission, Learning for Life, Leading in Truth.
Just a reminder that the 1st quarter ends on Friday, October 23rd. If you haven’t already checked your child’s grades, please access Power School at your earliest convenience. Do not hesitate to reach out to us with any concerns you may have.
We hope you enjoy this week’s edition of the Mustang Minute and pray that you and your family enjoy your fall break!

Principal Garrett Wenzelburger and Superintendent/CEO Micah Lorenzen will share updates on enrollment, academics, student life, facilities, strategic priorities, and the future direction of our school. Whether you are a current family, alumni, supporter, congregation member, delegate, area pastor, or friend of our school, we welcome you to learn more about how God is blessing our ministry and how we can continue working together to serve students and families for years to come.
Coming soon, powerschool lunch!
We are excited to announce that we will be adding a cashless lunch payment option for our students through Power Lunch! This will provide families with a convenient way to add money to their students’ lunch account without having to send cash to school.
We will continue to accept cash for lunch purchases, but we are hopeful that the new cashless option will provide an additional, convenient choice for families.
We are currently working through the final details of the system. As soon as we know how parents can upload funds to their student account, we will communicate those instructions with the school community.
We appreciate your patience as we get this new option up and running and look forward to providing our families with another convenient way to manage student lunch accounts!

DONAVON RILEY: FROM DARKNESS TO GRACE | Saturday, November 21, 8:15 AM – 3:30 PM at St. john rochester
On November 21, St. John Lutheran Church & School, Rochester, invites you to a special event featuring Rev. Donavon Riley as he addresses the deeply personal challenges of mental health and addiction. Drawing from nearly two years of parish ministry as well as his own powerful journey as a former addict and convert from atheism, Rev. Riley brings a raw, unflinching perspective to these modern struggles.
Grounded in a rich Lutheran theology of grace, his message and gift for storytelling moves beyond self-made solutions to shine a light on the true rest, healing, and hope found in Christ alone.
Whether you are personally struggling, supporting a loved one, or seeking to care for your community, come be encouraged by the daily reality that we do not have to carry our heaviest burdens alone. Join us for an inspiring, honest conversation on moving from shame, guilt, or heartache to the promises of the Gospel. RSVP by November 7 at https://www.stjohnrochester.org/event/darknesstograce
We expect this event to sell out, so act quickly! $50 per person (non-refundable) | Catered lunch by Vince & Joe's 1011 W. University Dr., Rochester MI, 48307 | stjohnrochester.org | 248-402-8000
