Mustang Minute - September 18, 2026

Lutheran North Families,

We’ve officially made it to the mid-term of first quarter.  At this point, students should have a healthy number of assignments, tests and quizzes entered in the gradebook, giving you and your child a clear picture of where they are at in each of their courses.  I pray that your child is doing well, but if for any reason you notice that they are struggling, please reach out to our staff for a clearer picture as to why they might be struggling and what can be done to support them.

Micah Lorenzen

This week was loaded with great chapel messages.  On Monday we welcomed our Superintendent/CEO, Micah Lorenzen, who encourage our students to be concerned about not only our own eternal life, but also the eternal life of each person we encounter.  On Tuesday, Pastor Greenhagen, who came to us all the way from Mt. Pleasant, reminded us that forgiveness is not something to withhold, but rather a mandate from our Lord.  Nothing heals relationships like forgiveness, something our Lord offers to us at no cost.  On Thursday, Pastor Wenzelburger shared the story of the leper who was healed and felt compelled to share what had happened to him with everyone he met.  He emphasized that we should be unashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Mr. Greve capped the week of by reminding us that we are not enemies of Christ, but instead, we have been brought into His family through His death and resurrection.

Pastor Greenhagen

Extracurricular activities continue to see success.  Our athletic programs are making waves not just locally, but at the state level, with multiple programs finding their way into the regional and state rankings.  If you are on campus after school, it’s hard to find a field, gym or room that is not being used for some type of club or extracurricular.  Campus is always buzzing, and that’s how we like it!  Our club and sport members would love to see you at an event as they use the gifts God has given each one of them.

We hope you enjoy this week’s version of the Mustang Minute!  Remember, if you have any questions, please reach out.  Our hope is to give you a clear picture of what is happening at Lutheran North.

AN IMPORTANT LETTER FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

Dear LHSA Parents,

The new Federal Education Tax Credit program has the potential to provide significant financial assistance to families for educational expenses. However, for eligible LHSA families to benefit, the State of Michigan must first opt into the program. At this time, Michigan has not opted into the program.

Beginning in January of 2027, individuals who donate to an approved Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) may receive a federal tax credit of up to $1,700. SGOs can then provide scholarships to eligible families to help cover qualified K-12 educational expenses.

I encourage you to learn more about the program by reviewing this document (Michigan SGO.pdf) from the Michigan Association of Non-Public Schools or by visiting the SGO Guide website here.

For many LHSA families, this program could provide meaningful financial assistance for educational expenses. I encourage you to consider contacting your state legislators and the Governor's office to express your support for Michigan opting into the program. Communication from parents and constituents can play an important role in emphasizing the positive impact this would have on families.

In Christ,

Micah Lorenzen
