Mustang Minute - September 25, 2026
Lutheran North Families,
Fall is in the air. Cool weather has arrived and the homecoming week is just around the corner! You can feel the energy and excitement around campus, and our community could not be more excited for the week the lies ahead. Homecoming week at Lutheran North is a truly special week that will provide our students with the opportunity to participate in themed dress days, support our athletic teams on the court and on the field, participate in pep rallies and share in their love for this institution with not just current students, but those who have gone before them!
Although we have not yet reached homecoming, this past week was still jam packed with excitement! We love the students in our building, but also the students that will join us in years to come. On Monday, we had an opportunity to meet those many of those students on “Future Mustang Day.” Hundreds of 8th graders and their parents and teachers had a chance to experience a morning as a mustang. They met the staff, walked through the halls, and were able to see what an incredible place Lutheran North can be for students. I know it’s only September, but we cannot wait to see the class of 2031 on campus!

Chapel continued to be a place where our students heard the gospel message of Jesus Christ. Mr. Horvath used Tuesday’s chapel as an opportunity to let our students know that each one of them matters. Every student matters because of what their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ did for them at the cross. On Thursday, Pastor Doug Bender shared a great message on Romans 5, encouraging our students to stay “rooted” in Christ. On Friday, Pastor Robinson from the VA hospital in Ann Arbor, MI reminded our students that although they are sinners, they can be comforted in the toughest of times because they know who their Savior truly is.
On Wednesday, a few of our students met at the flagpole to pray and participate in “See You at the Pole.” Although this is a national event, each school must coordinate the specifics of how to handle the details on their own. Our school’s event was driven by several students who approached the office and organized the event on their own. For those of you who are discouraged by our current and future generations, please know that God is working through our young men and women today in incredible ways, and I can assure you that the future is bright! A parent in attendance approached me and said, “your kids know how to pray.” I am amazed by these students and cannot wait to see what God has in store for each one of them.

AN IMPORTANT LETTER FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Dear LHSA Parents,
The new Federal Education Tax Credit program has the potential to provide significant financial assistance to families for educational expenses. However, for eligible LHSA families to benefit, the State of Michigan must first opt into the program. At this time, Michigan has not opted into the program.
Beginning in January of 2027, individuals who donate to an approved Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) may receive a federal tax credit of up to $1,700. SGOs can then provide scholarships to eligible families to help cover qualified K-12 educational expenses.
I encourage you to learn more about the program by reviewing this document (Michigan SGO.pdf) from the Michigan Association of Non-Public Schools or by visiting the SGO Guide website here.
For many LHSA families, this program could provide meaningful financial assistance for educational expenses. I encourage you to consider contacting your state legislators and the Governor's office to express your support for Michigan opting into the program. Communication from parents and constituents can play an important role in emphasizing the positive impact this would have on families.

The Lutheran High Schools are pleased to share that our schools are using SchoolMessenger, a trusted communication platform, to send timely and important updates directly to your cell phone via text message. What is SchoolMessenger?
SchoolMessenger is a widely used notification service designed specifically for educational institutions. It enables schools to communicate quickly and securely with families using SMS (text messaging), voice calls, and email. The platform is compliant with the Student Privacy Pledge, which means your personal information is protected and will never be shared or sold.
To OPT-IN
