Mustang Minute - September 11, 2026
Lutheran North Families,
It appears that all our students are settling into the routines of the school year. Believe it or not the midterm (middle of the 1st quarter), is next Friday, September 18th. Life comes at you fast! We hope your children are off to a great start. Having the opportunity to walk our building regularly and sit in on classes, it is clear that we have teachers who emphasize learning and students who desire to learn and are receptive to their instructors.
Our chapel speakers did a tremendous job this week. On Tuesday, Mr. Ellison’s chapel emphasized that although we become “sleepy” and “bored” in our faith, there is nothing boring about the simple message of Christ crucified for us. Thursday’s speaker, Dr. Bull (President of Concordia Nebraska) reminded us that our hearts have a hole that needs to be filled. That hole is in the shape of a cross, and only Christ will be able to fill the needs of our heart. Mr. Felten finished the week by reminding our students that all scripture points to Christ and what he has done for us. We are blessed to be able to hear speakers each day share the love of Christ with our students.
Outside of the classroom we continued to see more extracurriculars get together. This week was highlighted by our Mock Trial team which met on Thursday. It is awesome to see our participation in Mock Trial rise each year, and after talking with Ms. Haupt, I know our leaders are excited for another year of learning and competing!
In the athletic realm, we experienced another successful week. Most notably, we saw our girls’ volleyball team play one of their strongest games in recent memory on Thursday night. In our BWAC conference home opener, our girls fought back from a two-set deficit to beat North Branch, who is currently ranked near the top of the state rankings!
We hope you find this week’s edition of The Mustang Minute helpful. Please remember that we are here to answer any questions you might have. Education at Lutheran North can only exist with a partnership between the parents, students and the school staff.

AN IMPORTANT LETTER FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Dear LHSA Parents,
The new Federal Education Tax Credit program has the potential to provide significant financial assistance to families for educational expenses. However, for eligible LHSA families to benefit, the State of Michigan must first opt into the program. At this time, Michigan has not opted into the program.
Beginning in January of 2027, individuals who donate to an approved Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) may receive a federal tax credit of up to $1,700. SGOs can then provide scholarships to eligible families to help cover qualified K-12 educational expenses.
I encourage you to learn more about the program by reviewing this document (Michigan SGO.pdf) from the Michigan Association of Non-Public Schools or by visiting the SGO Guide website here.
For many LHSA families, this program could provide meaningful financial assistance for educational expenses. I encourage you to consider contacting your state legislators and the Governor's office to express your support for Michigan opting into the program. Communication from parents and constituents can play an important role in emphasizing the positive impact this would have on families.
In Christ,
Micah Lorenzen
